Hotel Chocolate: A Brand Of Chocolate For The Connoisseur
I should start this post by stating right off the bat that I’m addicted to chocolate. Dark bittersweet chocolate is my preference but in desperate times, good milk chocolate will do. My addiction became hardcore after years spent living in Paris just down the street from a Maison du Chocolat store. It was so accessible, so easy to love. I succumbed quite willingly to the sweet satisfaction of a good fix. This said, I may be addicted but I still have my standards: the chocolate can’t be too sweet, it needs a robust cocoa taste and the texture needs to be fine and never waxy. When I relocated to London, I was bitterly disappointed to find that the British palate preferred an altogether sweeter concoction more akin to candy than actual chocolate and full of hydrogenated vegetable fats, artificial flavourings and colorings. Yuck! As any junkie will tell you, because nothing will stand in the way of your regular fix, I took to crossing town just to stock up on my preferred chocolates.
As luck would have it, I was invited recently to do a product review for a small British chocolatier called Hotel Chocolate. To be honest, I had never heard of them so prior to accepting the invitation, I went to their website to check out their product and brand philosophy. Connoisseurs will tell you that a fine chocolate begins with fine ingredients and Hotel Chocolate understands this. In fact, their commitment to producing quality chocolate runs so deeply through their corporate philosophy that Hotel Chocolat has adopted an ethical chocolate policy designed to ensure a sustainable and high-quality source of cocoa while helping implement fair trade conditions for cocoa farmers in Ghana. Hotel Chocolate also has a Tasting Club designed to introduce its clientele to new flavors and varieties of chocolate. Most impressive however is the breadth of their product range. There is literally a product for virtually every occasion and every person in your life including vegans and diabetics. But enough about all this, you’re probably wondering How does it taste? Well, my 225 gram Hotel Chocolate 50% Milk Chocolate Easter Egg arrived by special delivery at 8:03 a.m. By 8:10 a.m., I had devoured about half and the only thing stopping me from eating the other half is that I have to fit into my 3.1 Phillip Lim Grecian dress for a black tie event this weekend. Not too sweet, strong cocoa taste and very fine texture. I won’t be crossing town for my chocolate fix anymore.
Sincerely,
The Luxe Chronicles
